Wedding Music Guide

Your Florida wedding is one of the most important days of your life, and there’s no denying that the dress, tuxedo, food, flowers and décor all play an important role. But, what about music? In our experience here at DTM, music is proven to have incredible staying power in the memory of wedding guests. I can recall a number of occasions where I've performed at a second or third wedding within the same family or network of friends, years apart, and continued to receive compliments for the original wedding.

Perhaps your guests will remember an elegant string quartet playing Bach, some Beatles, and even the new Ed Sheeran or Adele song at your ceremony. Or, maybe they'll remember an interactive "Live Music" wedding DJ, coming out from behind the booth to play sax for your dinner set, before returning to a mix of today's hottest hits. Both will live on in the minds of your friends and family for years….perhaps long after they’ve forgotten what color the flowers were, or what they had for dinner. Music makes memories!

Let’s take a look at the way Sarasota's David Turner Music can enhance your special day. For most traditional weddings there are three places to utilize music. They are…

The Ceremony

You’ll want the music to begin about 20 minutes before the start of your wedding ceremony. Whether it’s a classical string quartet that you’ve selected, or a jazz saxophone for an intimate beach wedding, this prelude music will soothe and entertain your guests while they are waiting for the arrival of the wedding party. The processional music, used to announce the arrival of the wedding party will begin as they make their way to the front of the room. This will culminate in the bride walking down the aisle, or bridal processional. We offer a number of traditional and non-traditional music selections for your wedding processional, along with a number of pieces for Jewish wedding ceremonies. You can find samples on our audio samples page.

Special ceremony music is optional, and may include a piece for lighting a unity candle or other important event in the ceremony. Please let us know what you will need, and we’ll be happy to make suggestions. Recessional music will provide you with a grand exit, following the announcement of husband and wife. Again, this can be tailored to your particular wedding style. We offer classical, popular and traditional Jewish selections to bring your ceremony to a fitting close.

The Wedding Cocktail Hour

There are a few things to consider here. Do you want the cocktail to continue the theme from your ceremony? Or would you prefer a different sound? Perhaps you had a Florida string quartet for the ceremony, and now you would like a small jazz group for the cocktail. We offer several group variations for your wedding cocktail hour , and we’ll be there every step of the way to help you with the decision-making process. You’ll need to consider the size and layout of the room. Is there already a grand piano at your venue? If so, maybe you’ll want to incorporate that into your cocktail group. Will you need a PA system for sound reinforcement? Perhaps.  Just tell us about your wedding venue, and give us your thoughts. We'll definitely be there to lend our expertise!
